Architectural History Workshop Lightning ϟ Rounds: Visual Representation in Architectural History – Media

Join the SAHGB for an evening exploring architectural history through alternative media. From Minecraft to collages, four post-graduate researchers will share their work in short sessions followed by discussion with the panel and guests.

Building on the themes explored in our Architectural History Workshop: Visual Representation in Architectural History, the 7th May lightning round session seeks to explore research presentation and the ways in which varying technologies and modes of representation can themselves be the product of research. Selected from a competitive field of proposals, the papers explore alternative mediatic expressions of architectural history, ranging from Minecraft to collage. Presenters represent universities in the United Kingdom and the USA, and cover historiographies from the very recent past to the 19th century.

The speakers are:

Elliott Sturtevant, PhD candidate from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia University presenting “Container Technologies: On Architecture as Logistical Media”

Alejandro Carrasco Hidalgo, MA student in Architectural History from the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London presenting “The Rise of Postdigital. Collages as representational method in the early 2010’s”

Leonhard von Reinersdorff, MA student in Architectural History from the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London presenting “Minecraft and Discrete Design: A New Media Architectural History”

Lukas Pauer, PhD candidate from the Architectural Association presenting “Scale Matters: On Sovereignty and the Marker, a Performative and Reciprocal Interrelationship.”

The panel of critics includes Robyne Calvert, David Nicholson-Cole, Alan Dunlop and Neil Jackson.

For the foreseeable future the SAHGB Events will be virtual events via Zoom. We will circulate joining instructions via email the morning of the scheduled event. Please complete the form below to register.
