The SAHGB is an organisation of people of all ages and in all parts of the United Kingdom and internationally, united by an interest in architectural history, including academic and professional architectural historians, architects, undergraduate and postgraduate students of architecture and architectural history, and others from all backgrounds who simply have an interest in architectural history. By joining us, you will become part of this  thriving, active and diverse network, gain all the benefits of membership, and support our vital work in promoting the study and enjoyment of the built environment.

Membership Benefits

Our members are the lifeblood of our organisation and membership fundamentally supports our educational objectives. In return for your support we offer:

  • A free hard copy of Architectural History, the leading peer-reviewed journal in the discipline, produced to the highest standard and featuring new research by leaders in their field and reviews of the latest publications

  • 2 issues per year of our magazine, The Architectural Historian, with updates, news and features relating to higher education, heritage and conservation practice

  • A monthly email update with news and offers

  • Discounted participation in our diverse and expanding programme including study visits, symposia and lectures (see ‘What We Do’ and ‘What’s On’ for more)  

For student and early career professions we offer a reduced subscription fee. We also offer bursaries to attend selected conferences and events, and run awards and events tailored to their needs. We also run a long-established PhD scholarship programme which runs annually.

Membership dues are payable annually on the first day of January.

Members who join after 1 October will be subscribed for the following calendar year.

The form below is for new members. Joining through the year is welcomed, though a yearly membership runs from Jan 1st to December 31st, and we send renewal reminders in our newsletter from December for January renewals. A confirmation message may not always arrive instantly. We send a postal welcome pack to new members.
