EDI & ECR Networks

All members of the Society are able to join one or more of these networks.

The SAHGB currently hosts five active thematic networks through which various means of gathering, voicing, exchange and collaboration can be formed to advocate particular knowledge, positions and causes. Our EDI and ECR networks include: the Early Career Researchers (ECR) Network; the Women Architectural Historians’ Network; the Disability Network; the LGBTQIA+ Network; and the Race and Ethnicity Network.

Being a member of a thematic network means that you will:

  • Receive regular updates, news and information relevant to the network

  • Be invited to participate in events and activities organised in the network

  • Have opportunities to contribute to knowledge exchange and partake in collaborative projects

  • Meet architectural historians and heritage professionals with similar interests

  • The SAHGB is currently inviting applications from suitable and committed individuals to take on a leading role in the following Networks:

    • Women Architectural Historians’ Network

    • LGBTQIA+ Network

    • Race and Ethnicity Network

These EDI Networks have been running for a number of years and are established forums within the Society. We are looking for new Network Conveners to continue the work of previous conveners to proactively lead these Networks, typically across a term of three years which is renewable with consent from the Board of Trustees.

As a Network Convener, you will take a leading role in instigating and sustaining opportunities for engagement, representation and support amongst members in your network, and between members and the SAHGB management team and Board of Trustees. Being a Network Convener involves:

    • Acting as a focal point of communication and advocacy for the Society's broader aims to support EDI and ECR work, through close liaison with the SAHGB Education and EDI Lead

    • Advising the SAHGB Board of Trustees and the management team on policy and matters relevant to your network

    • Communicating regularly with members of your network

    • Creating informal and formal opportunities for member to meet and work together

    • Proposing, organising and promoting specific themes and key issues of debate by means of biennial symposiums

    • Initiating workshops on particular themes and agendas that respond to the rising interests of different networks

    • Contributing to the content of the Society's regular newsletters, magazines, website features, podcasts and social media posts to inform wider members of the key agenda advocated and activities organised by your network

The appointment of the Network Convener can be a shared role, and we encourage proposals from two or more co-conveners. Please note that Network Conveners work on a voluntary basis. To apply for the role of Network Convener, please email a brief statement, outlining your suitability, relevant experience and vision for the network (max 2 pages), and a short CV (max 2 pages) to: info@sahgb.org.uk

  • The SAHGB welcomes proposals for new thematic Networks that address strong current interests and important questions in architectural history and heritage studies.

The Society currently hosts five active thematic Networks—the Early Career Researchers Network; the Women Architectural Historians’ Network; the Disability Network; the LGBTQIA+ Network; and the Race and Ethnicity Network. We are looking to complement and expand our equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and early career researcher (ECR) Network offerings with the aim to represent and advocate specific emerging causes across the Society.

If you have an idea for a new thematic Network, and are committed to leading that network for a period of 3 years, then we would very much like to hear from you. See the above Call for New Network Conveners for the outline description of the role in terms of opportunities and responsibilities. The appointment of the Network Convener can be a shared role, and we encourage proposals from two or more co-conveners. We particularly welcome proposals for a network addressing the themes of environment and/or sustainability, as well as in relation to pedagogy and forms of teaching and learning, but all areas of focus are welcome. Please note that Network Conveners work on a voluntary basis.

To propose a new thematic network, please email a short description (max 1 page) of the new network, outlining its central focus, key aims and activities, and a short CV (max 2 pages) for the proposed Convener(s) to: info@sahgb.org.uk.
