Architectural History Workshop: Visual Representation as a Critical Tool

Representations of architecture extend from perspective drawings to virtual reality. Whether supporting written analysis or introducing a mediatic result for research, visual representation has an increasingly significant role in communicating architectural history knowledge, engaging audiences with heritage tourism and supporting site management.

SAHGB’s annual Architectural History Workshop is designed to inspire students and early career researchers and heritage practitioners to consider architectural history beyond the written word. The workshop will introduce four areas of visual representation for architectural history research; photography, filmmaking, 3-D scanning and geographic information systems (GIS).

Hosted on Zoom with break-out sessions organised by topic, specialists will introduce the expressive media and share examples of how they can be applied as research methodologies, analytical tools or as the products of research itself. Participants will gain both practical knowledge from the workshop and receive a post-event guidance sheet with key resources, opportunities for further training and top tips.

The course is £5 per person. Please use the form below to register for the workshop.

The workshop is limited to 30 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

For the foreseeable future the SAHGB Seminars will be virtual events via Zoom. We will circulate joining instructions via email the morning of the scheduled event. Please complete the form below to register.
