New Appointments announced for the SAHGB’s ‘Architectural History’ Journal

The Society is delighted to announce the appointments of the new Editor and Executive Editor of Architectural History, to take effect on 1 September 2023.

Dr Emily Mann will take over as editor from Professor Mark Swenarton, who has been in post since September 2020. Emily was formerly a lecturer at the Courtauld Institute of Art and is now Associate Professor of Architectural History, Race and Spatial Justice at the Bartlett School of Architecture, where she is a member of the Survey of London research team. She has previously worked in publishing as well as teaching, and has been a key member of the Architectural History team for a number of years, first as Deputy Editor (2017-20) and since 2020 as Executive Editor.

Succeeding Emily as Executive Editor will be Alborz Dianat, who has recently submitted his PhD thesis at the University of Edinburgh. Alborz’s doctoral research was supported by the Society’s Graham Child Scholarship and his work has been twice commended in the Society’s Essay Medal competition (the Hawksmoor). He is the author of The Re-Making of Charles Rennie Mackintosh: A Study of the 1933 Memorial Exhibition in Architectural History (2019) and also of articles in Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians and in the Journal of Design History.
