Architectural History Workshop

2017: the inaugural Architectural History Workshop

Saturday May 20, 2017
The Gallery, Cowcross Street, London
Since 2013 the Graduate Student Research Forum has established itself as one of the fixed points in the year for our Educational activities. Beginning in 2013 at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning, University College London, it has grown in ambition, attendance and usefulness over the years as it moved on to Cambridge in 2014 and Edinburgh Universities in 2015. After a year’s break we’ve looked at the feedback and what we have learnt from these events and are now re-launching the it with a new title and a new permanent venue.

Courtesy of Alan Baxter Associates the inaugural Architectural History Workshop was held on Saturday 20th May 2017 at The Gallery, Cowcross Street, London.  Jointly convened by our out-going Education Officer, Julian Holder, the event was aimed at graduate research students, or those considering doing research in any area of architectural history, as a means of practicing presentations , trying out arguments, career development, meeting like-minded colleagues from across academia and generally being part of a mutually supportive group engaged in research. The Workshop was a means to engage with Early Career scholars as a means to develop this area of the Society’s work.

Future workshops will still be run by, and for, students  exclusively - with the Society’s help - but be based in London and feature a series of set items each year to support the next generation of architectural historians including our own PhD Scholars. Composed of a mixture of formal and informal sessions – hence Workshop - we aim to make this an unmissable event in the architectural history calendar.

Further announcements will appear shortly – if you are a research student interested in helping organising future events please contact the SAHGB Education Officer, Dr Susie West.
